Shorgul (2016)
Shorgul (2016) is a Hindi political thriller inspired by the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, directed by Pranav Kumar Singh and Jitendra Tiwari. The film's plot revolves around the innocent friendship between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl, which is cynically manipulated by rival politicians, played by Jimmy Sheirgill and Ashutosh Rana, to incite communal hatred for electoral advantage. This political scheming ignites a violent uproar ("shorgul"), tearing apart the social fabric of their town. Ultimately, the movie serves as a commentary on the tragic human cost of divisive politics and the weaponization of religious sentiments.
