Udit Narayan (born Udit Narayan Jha on 1 December 1955) is a legendary Indian playback singer whose melodious and versatile voice defined the sound of Bollywood music throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In a prolific career spanning over four decades, he has recorded tens of thousands of songs in Hindi, Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bengali, and numerous other Indian languages.
Renowned for his sweet, smooth, and deeply romantic vocal texture, Udit Narayan became the definitive voice for generations of leading Bollywood actors. He shot to national superstardom with the massive success of Anand-Milind's soundtrack for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which won him his first Filmfare Award and catapulted him to the top tier of playback singing.
