Simran is a 2017 Indian heist crime drama film directed by Hansal Mehta in a screenplay written by Apurva Asrani and Kangana Ranaut based loosely around a real- life story of Sandeep Kaur. The film stars Ranaut in the lead role and Hiten Kumar, Kishori Shahane and Sohum Shah in supporting roles.

The film’s narrative revolves around Praful Patel, a divorcee, who loses her savings in a gambling bout. She takes a loan in order to repair the damage but when she is unable to repay it, she finds herself drawn into a life of crime. The movie is loosely based on the life of Sandeep Kaur, a non-resident Indian (NRI) in the United States who has been convicted of four bank robberies.

The film released worldwide on 15 September 2017. Upon release, the film received mixed reviews with critics widely praising Ranaut’s performance but they also criticised the film’s screenplay and execution. Ranaut received a Best Actress nomination at the Screen Awards for her acclaimed performance.
